Truman and Al Capone have stayed. You can rent bikes and ride around town, maybe stopping for a bite at the historic Ray’s Diner, a restaurant that just celebrated its seventy-fifth year in business! You could also go out to Watkins Mill State Park and take a dip in the lake. Amusement parks like Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun are less than thirty minutes away, and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is less than an hour away in Kansas City. There are also many historic sites scattered around the area, including the Vaile Mansion in Independence.
