American Masters on PBS celebrates the achievements of architect I.M. Pei. Pei was born in China in 1917. He came to the United States to study architecture with the intent on returning to China. However when cultural and political events unfolded in his native country, Pei remained in the U.S. He received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from MIT then a Masters in Architecture from Harvard. Pei has received several honors and awards during his career. In 1954 he became a naturalized citizen of the United States.

Among I.M. Pei’s architectural contributions are the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum in Boston, the Grand Louvre in Paris, the Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong, and many more.
