Australia's wine heritage is about 200 years old and is one of the few countries in the world to produce every major wine style. There are no grape varieties native to Australia, grapes were imported from Europe and most of the wine produced was sent to England and India. The first known records of grape production dates from 1791. From 1860 onwards, many of Europe's vineyards were decimated from disease, leaving Australia with some of the oldest vineyards in the world.

Wyndham Estate, New South Wales

Wyndham Estate came into being as Dalwood Wines in 1828, when George Wyndham, an English immigrant planted 600 vine cuttings given to him by British botanist James Busby. George Wyndham was of the pioneers of the Australian wine industry, winning many awards in international expositions. Dalwood Wines was renames Wyndham Estate in 1970 to commemorate the achievements of the original owner and continues to produce some excellent vintages.
